Minister Mervyn Silva says police are investigating as to how an identity card he has issued to Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha member Hasitha Madawala has come to be in the possession of a drug dealer.
Speaking to the media in Colombo yesterday (Jan. 10), the minister said the drug dealer in question has been arrested with two kg of heroin and under interrogation.
He also said his identity card has been taken by PS member Madawala.
According to him, the Kelaniya PS members even did not have slippers on their feet when he first came to Kelaniya.
Now, they are wearing suits and it is gladdening to see them in good shape, minister Silva said, adding that they should eat and drink well and let the others eat and drink as well.
He went onto say that as a son of the Ruhuna, he has never done anything wrong, and said he would resign from his ministerial position if proven otherwise.
The minister hoped that he would not lose his cool, and if that happened, only the Triple Gem can protect his opponents.
He said that he is a person well known in the country, and unlike him, the previously unheard of persons try to get publicity by giving voice cuts to the media.
Minister Silva said that he is taking everything easy, and is reading Munidasa Cumaratunga’s ‘Heen Seraya’ these days.
Let them complain to the CID, to the police headquarters or the Bribery Commission, he said, asking imprisoned former Army chief Sarath Fonseka to face him in a debate over his praising the Kelaniya PS, and not its members, who are lunatics.
At the media briefing, the minister showed to journalists several documents, which he claimed were letters and bank account details pertaining to acts of bribery and corruption committed by the Kelaniya PS members.
