It is reported that plans are afoot to appoint a group of United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) candidates who lost in the recent Southern and Western Provincial Council elections to posts of chairpersons, directors and advisors in ministries, government corporations and other establishments.

85-year old parliamentarian, who is four years older than the Indian premier calls him ‘nakiya’

UPFA National List MP J.R.P.Suriyapperuma hurled abuses at Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Parliament yesterday calling him an old man (nakiya) and a fool who will soon be thrown out of power by the Indian people. Eighty five year-old Mr. Suriyapperuma, who is four years older than the Indian Prime Minister directed his ire at Premier Singh for failing to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) held in Colombo last month.

Central, NWP in UPFA hands;TNA sweeps the NPC polls;DP now the “third force”; UNP vote base reduced to 20%

Ruling UPFA  won Central and North Western Provinces handsomely while main opposition UNP reduced to 20 -30% votes, TNA obtained 3/4th of seats in the Northern Provincial council, Former Army Commander Saratha Fonseka's party became third political force in the South pushing the Sinhala Nationalist JVP to Forth place.
