JHU, NFF form common front against 13th amendment

Leaders of the ruling UPFA affiliates JHU and NFF have decided to promote a strong opinion within and outside the government against certain others’ supportive stance to the 13th amendment to the constitution.

Patali Champika Ranawaka and Wimal Weerawansa announced at a media briefing in Colombo today (Nov. 07) they would forge a common front in this regard while staying in the government.

He alleged India had masterminded the amendment in a violation of democracy in the island, purportedly to curb LTTE activities.

Now that the outfit has been defeated, that piece of legislation was needed no longer, said Mr. Weerawansa.

Also speaking here, minister Ranawaka said the 13th amendment should be abolished because the TNA could go to courts after winning the northern provincial council election to demand police and land powers.

He added their common front would unite all patriotic forces to ensure the abolition of the 13th amendment.
