Cabinet rejects women’s rights commission

The cabinet has rejected a proposal for the appointment of a fully-fledged commission for safeguarding women’s rights.  Minister Tissa Karaliyadde had proposed the setting up of the 10-member panel, a majority of whom should have been women.

They were to represent environment, law, economy, science and technology, social services, labour, health and education fields.
