Army Restricts Kankamigai Amman in Kilinochhci from regular Street Procession - GTN Reporter

The street procession of the Amman which takes place along the normal route hitherto taken has been restricted this time. The street procession of Kannaki amman of the Kanakambigaikulam Kannaki Amman temple in the Kilinochchi district has been curbed by the Sri Lankan army.

The followers of the Kanagambikai kulam Kannaki Amman are sad over this happening. Amman usually goes through the streets where water rushes up. It is traditional that the Amman goes through Alagar street which runs along an anicut and reach the temple.

Meanwhile the forces stopped the Amman procession last Sunday when it was going through the Anicut at Iranaimadu and had to use an alternate route to reach the temple through Thiruvaiyaru.

Resettlement in this area took place two years ago, but army camps here which have base Iranaimadu have not been removed and these camps run up to the outer streets of the Kovil.


With the kumbabisekam of the Amman starting in January, forces have been restricting the street procession of the Amman and this has in fact saddened the worshippers of Amman but a Budhdha statue has been constructed at a Iranaimadukulam along the anicut through which many tourists travel by
