Skeletons of two persons, allegedly slain by the Sri Lankan military in recent times, have been recovered from an abandoned well near a bund constructed by the occupying Sri Lanka Army in I'lavaalai, Pa'ndaththeruppu situated in Valikaamam in the Jaffna district on Wednesday. Brain parts found inside one of the two skulls indicate that the victims have been slain in recent times, eyewitnesses told TamilNet.
The skeletons were located when the villagers were clearing the well at a locality known as Thennanthoappu (cocount palm grove), a place recently vacated by the Sri Lanka Army.
The Sri Lanka Army had constructed a High Security Zone bund from Maathakal to Kadduvan. The well where the human skeletons were recovered is situated besides the bund, which was running parallel to I'lavaalai - Pa'ndaththeruppu road.
The villagers suspect that the SLA had dumped the bodies of victims who were abducted and killed in recent times.
The judge of Mallaakam court visited the site Wednesday and instructed the SL police in I'lavaalai to conduct investigations.
The SL military and its paramilitaries have abducted more than 2,000 people in Jaffna peninsula alone, which has been occupied by the SLA since 1998.
In the meantime, southern journalists opposed to SL government have started alleging that the SLA in Jaffna has been operating ‘killing vehicles’, where the abducted victims were slain and burnt without trace. The allegation by the southern journalists have come after two JVP activists were allegedly abducted by the SLA in Achchuveali in Valikaamam.
