A 37-year-old British nurse has recounted her "hellish" experience in Sri Lanka after she was arrested and sent to a deportation centre for sporting a Buddha tattoo deemed offensive by authorities.
Naomi Coleman was arrested at the country's main international airport on Monday shortly after her arrival on a flight from neighbouring India and appeared before a magistrate who ordered her deportation, police said in a statement.

According to reports a 37 year old British nurse who arrived in Sri Lanka this Monday (21st April 2014) was taken by a taxi driver to a nearby police station where, according to her, she was harassed by policemen who demanded money from her. She had arrived at the Airport and the immigration authorities had allowed her to enter the country. She had earlier visited Sri Lanka and several other Buddhist countries and followed meditation under the guidance of Buddhist monks.
When the police were unable to extract bribes from her she had been produced before a Magistrate who according to her did not provide to her any opportunity to speak and then made an order to immediately deport her from Sri Lanka. Subsequently she was deported to New Delhi, from where she has arrived earlier.

Firstly politics is done by our Parliamentary Members. They are the real politicians. I have come more or less as an Administrator. So Parliamentarians are due to attend. We have simply endorsed Ananthy as the most suitable person to attend if she could make it.
Secondly, the Countries that attend Geneva are interested in adequate proofs for them to take a stand one way or the other. Ananthy gave evidence quite boldly before LLRC, Navi Pillay and recently before the Paranagama Commission.

 The Chief Minister of the NPC called  for international action against the Sri Lankan government’s program of settling Sinhalese families on Tamil-owned land forcibly appropriated by the military.
He said he had done everything possible to appease the Sinhalese and win back Tamil rights and he had reached the end of his journey. Now he calls for international action to stop colonisation of the North-East.

CHOGM 2013  speakers stand: Tamil writing says Ayubowan, the singhalese word for Welcome, instead of the Tamil word for welcome Vanakkam ;In Tamil there is noword called Ayubowan.  And in English too it says Ayubowan not welcome.  Sinhala and Tamil are offcial languages while the English is link language. But this is how two language policy is rejected at highest levels.

This is a clear example of language discrimination in Sri Lanka.
 

Dambulla Hindu Temple destroyed

A 30 year old Hindu Temple located in Dambulla has been demolished by the authorities despite appeals made against it, the Democratic Peoples’ Front said today.
Western Provincial Council member and deputy leader of the Democratic Peoples’ Front Dr. N Kumaraguruparan said that the Dambulle Badhrakaali Amman Kovil was demolished last night.
Kumaraguruparan said that both he and Parliamentarian R .Yogarajan had made personal appeals to President Mahinda Rajapaksa to prevent moves to demolish the Hindu Temple.
Monks in the area had on previous occasions protested against the Hindu Temple and a Mosque and wanted both places of worship demolished.

Tamils have to live with Sinhala police in North says Police chief

Responding to comments made by the Northern Chief Minister that Tamil-speaking policemen should be recruited to serve the people in the Tamil-dominated Northern Province, Sri Lanka’s Police Chief today stated that different police forces cannot be created to suite a certain race. The Sinhala speaking police officers are working in Jaffna and the Tamil community who cannot understand Sinhalese have to live with it as this is the law of the Sri Lanka.
