AG to look into cases handed by the LLRC

Srilankamirror - The Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) has handed several cases brought before the Commission by persons who have appeared before it to the Attorney General (AG) for further investigation.
LLRC Spokesperson Lakshman Wickremasinghe says that around 10 to 15 cases have been handed over to the AG.

He explains that since the Commission does not have the mandate to inquire into issues raised by persons who have made submissions, the Commission has handed several cases to the AG.

He adds that the cases that have been handed to the AG have been done so following requests by the persons who have made submissions to the Commission.

Some individuals who have made submissions before the LLRC had pleaded with the Commission to inquire into them.

The cases that have been handed over to the AG are related to issues faced by people in the North and East and some are on abductions that have taken place in the area.

According to Wickremasinghe, the AG has initiated action with regard to some of the cases handed by the LLRC.
