The police are probing to track down the person who was behind the abduction of the prominent fish trader in Dematagoda and Peliyagoda, allegedly by two men in camouflage military uniforms. He returned home on Wednesday night. Lalith Kumara was assaulted by the unidentified masked men and they robbed cash and jewellery he possessed at the time which is worth around Rs.250,000.
It is believed that an influential figure was behind the abduction of the fish trader who is very popular in the area.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror one of his family members said that the men asked him whether he is the ‘Chandiya’ in Dematagoda and went on assaulting him till he was dropped from the vehicle in Negombo.
The 41 year old businessman is also the President of the fish traders association in Dematagoda. He was followed by two men in camouflaged uniforms who had overtaken the lorry he was driving and had showed a sign-board with 'Stop'. Then the two men had assaulted him and taken him in a vehicle.
The family members of the abducted lodged two complaints with the Dematagoda and Grandpass police. Following the abduction the Fish Traders Association staged a protest in the Dematagoda junction. (Supun Dias)
