The Ministry of Defence has lifted the travel restrictions on foreign passport holders to visit north from today. This restriction had also affected many former Sri Lankans who have obtained citizenship in other countries when they visit north.
According to Military Liaison Officer Officials, foreign pass port holders are no longer required to produce a MOD travel approval document at Omanthai entry/exist point- the main travel checking point located in Vavuniya.

The Jaffna Peace Council which also includes the members from various Chambers of Commerce in Jaffna last Saturday brought to the notice of the Minister Basil Rajapaksa about the difficulties faced by expatriate Sri Lankans who have obtained foreign citizenship in various countries when they visit their parents and relatives in Jaffna.
