People were brought to President’s election meeting by force – JVP

People from various places were transported by 250 buses to the election meeting held under the patronage of the President at Killinochchi said former Parliamentarian of the JVP Ramalingam Chandrasekar. He said people were brought to the meeting making false promises that they would be given houses and relief packages and some were threatened that relief to them would be taken away if they did not attend the meeting. Mr. Chandrasekar said he revealed these facts at the discussion held at the District Secretariat headed by the District Secretary.

The discussion participated by the District Secretary, senior police officers, senior Army officers and representatives of political parties was held to discuss the forthcoming local government elections in the North.

The representatives of the opposition parties pointed out that the government deploying a group of Army men is terrorizing candidates and supporters of opposition parties as well as the masses in the area.

Mr. Ramalingam Chandrasekar said despite claiming that a free and fair election would be held, there is no such environment to hold such a fair and free election in the North.
