Polls chief asked to annul Karachchiya PS voting

The poll monitoring body of the Intellectuals for Human Rights has asked the elections commissioner to annul elections held to the Karachchiya Pradeshiya Sabha as a number of incidents of election violence and violations have been reported from the area.

NEM IHR, issuing a communiqué, said it has received a large number of complaints that armed groups broke into homes last night and early morning today and removed ballot papers and identity cards.

They had also threatened voters and attempted to influence them regarding whom to vote.

NEM IHR says the situation denied the opportunity of holding a fair and free election and it was a plunder of the voting rights of people who had been denied the right to vote for more than three decades.
