[TamilNet] Sri Lankan Colonial Governor of the Northern Province, Major General (retired ) G.A.Chandrasiri, has diverted a portion of India-donated aid, meant for ‘resettled’ Tamil civilians in the five districts of North, once again as in the case of the India-donated tractors. This time, 2,000 bicycles were donated to each district. G.A. Chandrasiri has diverted 500 of 2,000 bicycles allocated to Jaffna district to Sinhala colonisers who have occupied the Ma'naalaa'ru division in Vanni.
Even the aid provided by India to the people of North, as a public relations maneuver in camouflaging its anti-people collaboration with the genocidal Colombo's structural genocide on the country of Eezham Tamils, is being exploited by the SL military-led civil administration, commented civil officials in Jaffna.
The Sinhala military governor of North has directed officials concerned to divert five hundred bicycles allocated for each district in the Northern province to the division of Ma'nalaa'ru (Weli Oya).
The Government of India had donated 10,000 bicycles through Colombo to be distributed among war-affected people in the five districts in the Northern Province at the rate of 2000 to each district.
The civil officials had carefully selected the beneficiaries of the scheme from persons who lost their limbs in the conflict, students affected and war widows and persons who needed bicycles to take forward their livelihood work.
Jaffna district secretariat officials are now in a quandary to find out ways and means to fill the shortage of bicycles to be donated to the war-affected Tamils.
Mr. R. Sampanthan of Tamil National Allliance, observed the following in a press statement issued on 18th July.
“The callous actions of the Government in regard to the allocation of the 500 tractors gifted for the benefit of the affected people in the Vanni by India, the politically motivated bias showed in the choice of persons to whom land masters gifted by a Humanitarian Organization were distributed and the inordinate delay again for political reasons in the commencement of implementation of the 50,000 Houses programme gifted by India, are a few instances which clearly demonstrate the [Sri Lankan] government’s lack of sincere commitment to the welfare of the affected people and the overwhelming desire for cheap political gain.”
