SL Police intimidated Tamil voters in Kalmunai: TNA

The Sri Lanka Police had unleashed terror on Tamil voters who went to cast their votes and return after exercising their franchise in the Kalmunai Municipal Council election held Saturday, according to Tamil National Alliance (TNA) sources in Kalmunai..
Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) polled 22,356 votes (48.99%) and secured 11 seats. The TNA has secured 4 seats polling 9,911 votes (21.72%). The UPFA came third, securing 3 seats and the UNP 1 seat of the Kalmunai Municipal council.

A Tamil candidate Kaathamuthu Ganesh who was contesting on the ticket of Mahinda Rajapaksa's United People Freedom Alliance (UPFA) also had intimidated the Tamil voters on the polling day.

A sub-inspector of the Sri Lanka Police, Sadiq of Kalmunai Police, stopped Tamil voters returning after casting their votes and those going to vote at a polling station located at Sivasakthi School.

The said police officer had also entered the Saiva temple with shoes and desecrated place of worship. The episode had taken place close to Cheanaik-kudiyiruppu Pi'l'laiyaar Koayil, according to complaints.

Complaints in this regard were made by TNA parliamentarian Mr.P.Selvarasa and Organizer of TNA in Kalmunai Mr.Indrakaumar Prasanna at the Kalmunai Police Station after visiting several polling stations in the area on the election day.
