14 pc of young Lankan girls sexually abused

Ten to 14 per cent of Sri Lanka’s young girls are sexually abused, said the Family Health Bureau.
 According to the Bureau’s statistics, seven pc of girls become pregnant at a very young age.
 Head of the Bureau Dr. Deepthi Perera has told a population workshop in Colombo that unsafe abortions are performed on 11 out of every 1,000 married women.

 Also, speaking at the function to mark the launch of the UNFPA’s 2011 World Population Report, MP Dr. Sudarshani Fernandopulle said 60,000 Sri Lankans get infected with sexually transmitted diseases every year.
