Co-Deputy leader of the UNP Sajith Premadasa accuses the government of further militarising the society despite the conclusion of the war in May two years ago.
The Hambantota District MP who is also the Deputy Opposition Leader urged the government to abandon a plan to provide a three-week training to some 10,000 university entrants. In a media statement, MP Premadasa expressed serious concern over the Defence Ministry being involved in the project.
Premadasa said that the government shouldn’t go ahead with the project, which would cause chaos in the university system.
Higher Education Minister S. B. Dissanayake last Friday said that the project would begin on Monday (May 23) as scheduled in spite of an attempt by the IUSF, affiliated to the JVP and other interested parties trying to sabotage it.
