UNP MP Palitha Thevarapperuma attacked while transporting injured muslims

UNP Parliamentarain Palitha Thevarapperuma has come under attack from Sinhala mobs yesterday evening while transporting injured Muslims. Although the MP has managed to escape the attack, his vehicle has been severely damaged, sources close to the MP told Asian Mirror.  The mob had attacked MP Thevarapperuma's vehicle on the grounds that he was "supporting" Muslims.

The Parliamentarian, according to our correspondents in Aluthgama, has been instrumental in rescuing a large number of Muslims from angry Sinhala mobs.

This incident had taken place just before a group of UNP Parliamentarians visited Beruwala, Aluthgama and Dharga Town.

MP Thewarapperuma assaulted at Dharga Town 

United National Party (UNP) Kalutara district parliamentarian Palitha Thewarapperuma, who attempted to save a group of women who were about to be killed during curfew, has been assaulted last night (June 16) by a group of thugs and his vehicle has been destroyed. One of the assaulted children is in critical condition.

The parliamentarian further stated that he and the group were assaulted while the members of Police and STF were observing and during the curfew security forces were protecting the terrorists.

He said that he was visiting Dharga Town last night in order to check on the helpless people in the area when he saw a group of terrorists in possession of swords and batons were attempting to kill a group of women and small children. In order to save them he has got down from the vehicle and got them inside it.He has been assaulted as he took the group inside the vehicle, the MP said.
