Sri Lanka: Prayer centre in Homagama torched

A prayer centre in a home in Pitipana, Homagama has been set on fire by an unidentified group early last morning (Jan. 12).
Members of the house has been present when the event took place around 2.00am, police say.
On Jan. 11, a 'final warning' signed by a certain 'Sinha Senankaya' has warned to stop Buddhists being converted into Christianity using funds of World Vision. If not, they will not be responsible for the lives and property, the notice has further warned.

The warning was fixed to the parapet wall of the house.

Speaking, the house owner said that though they spent several sleepless nights and even went to bed after midnight on Jan. 11, a group had set fire after 2.00am.

He said that as they woke up soon after the fire was started, they were able to avert serious damage.

Though the fire had severely damaged windows and doors of the house, police say that the fire had not spread to the inside of the house.

Prayers are being held at this premises for around 15 years, reports say.

Police is yet to make any arrests with regard to the incident.

Meanwhile, two prayer centres in Hikkaduwa were attacked yesterday.
