Mannar Attack: Judges Association wants IGP to take action

Court in Mannar, Vavuniya, and Jaffna sector staged a token strike today in protests against Thursday’s attack on Mannar by a group of fisher folks causing extensive damage.

The Court sittings in Mannar were completely suspended today while others began sessions after 12 noon.

However all cases were postposed as the lawyers were not in Court.

Meanwhile a high level meeting has been summoned by the Chief Justice to discuss the prevailing situation with the Judicial Service Commission (JSP

Lawyers to  strike on 20th

Lawyers islandwide will refrain from court proceedings tomorrow, to protest against the violence which took place opposite the Mannar Courts yesterday (18th), the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) said.

Mannar Attack: Judges Association wants IGP to take action

Judges Association today requested the Inspector General of Police to arrest a Minister and his supporters for threatening the Mannar Judge  and attacking the Court causing damages.

In a statement, the association claims that a Minister from the area had made phone calls to threaten the  Judge before and after the attack.
