Citing ‘grease devils,’ Sri Lanka occupying the country of Eezham Tamils sets the next stage of its militarisation by creating a ‘civil’ paramilitary that will be formally led by SL minister Mr Douglas Devananda, but actually ‘steered’ by the commander of the occupying forces, Maj. Gen. Hathurusinghe and the colonial governor Maj. Gen. Chandrasri. Openly accusing SL government and SL military for staging ‘grease devil’ attacks on Tamils and Muslims, the demonstrating Jaffna University students on Tuesday called upon the attention of the International Community. But the kind of International Community we see sitting on the world today will only be happy to receive more military lessons from Gotabhaya and ‘Asian Nobel’ laureate Hathurusinghe on how to use devil strategy for militarisation, commented a civil rights activist in Jaffna.
SL President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Tuesday despatched a special envoy, Susil Premajayantha, to form a ‘steering committee’ under the SL governor for the North, Maj.Gen Chandrasri, to provide ‘security’ in the wake of ‘grease devil’ attacks.
A kind of a ‘civil’ paramilitary force to be created under the steering committee will be led by SL minister and EPDP leader Douglas Devananda. But this will be tightly controlled by the occupying military at Brigade and Battalion levels.
The entire peninsula is divided into regions that go under Brigade and Battalion sectors and so-called development committees formed by the SL government are to be integrated with the new paramilitary phenomenon.
The commander of the occupying forces, Maj. Gen. Mahinda Hathurusinghe and Senior SL Police DIG Gamini Silva were present at the meeting along with Douglas Devananda.
Even though it is said that the new mechanism is created for ‘countering’ the ‘grease devil’ attacks, Hathurusinghe was denying the existence of any such attacks.
‘Grease Devil’ is a fantasy, said the occupying general who was awarded Guci Peace Prize in Philippines immediately after the Vanni War. According to SL military website it was like Asian Nobel Peace Prize.
Earlier on Monday in a preparatory meeting held at the Veerasingham Hall in Jaffna, the SL Senior Supt of Police for Jaffna, Neville Padmadeva also said that police in Jaffna had not received any complaints against ‘grease devils’ and rejected the existence of any such phenomenon.
The situation in Jaffna is that people can’t even go to hospitals when there are open military assaults. Hospitals are instructed to give false medical certificates so that people can’t make complaints to the police.
All civil groups will now be coordinated by the new explicitly created paramilitary, and this will give a new leverage to Douglas Devananda who lost the civic bodies elections recently to have control at the village level, political observers in Jaffna said.
As a customary show religious dignitaries had their obligatory presence in the meeting on Tuesday.
A Buddhist monk, Ven. Meegahajandure Sirivimala Thero, who was among the religious dignitaries present, said that the ‘grease devils’ are operated by people influenced by the West.
