Jaffna MC adopts resolution against reduction of MP seats

The Jaffna Municipal Council has unanimously adopted a resolution against the reduction of parliamentary seats for the district.

UPFA councillor S. Vijayakanth moved the proposal, which will now be submitted to the president.

The councillor has pointed out that many voters of Jaffna who have left the country for educational and employment purposes are not included in the electoral register.

As per the 2010 electoral register, the10 parliamentary seats for Jaffna have been reduced to six.

Elections chief Mahinda Deshapriya said he had taken the decision in accordance with the provisions in the elections act.
