AG’s Dept. not independent - new AG

The Auditor General’s Department is not an independent institution, since it is financially and administratively linked to the Treasury and other state bodies, said new auditor general H.A.S. Samaraweera.
He was speaking to the media today (Sep. 08) after paying homage at Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy and calling on the chief prelates of the Asgiriya and Malwatte Chapters.

Mr. Samaraweera said countries like the US, Canada and Australia have their auditing agencies run by parliamentary committees.

Sri Lanka’s auditor general will have to act according to state policies and in collaboration with other state agencies, he added.
