A referendum is needed for the 13th amendment in the constitution -GOTA

In terms of the government’s constitution, in order to extend the 13th Amendment it needs a referendum. This was disclosed by the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Services and the Urban Development activities Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

In a democratically elected government a respect has to be given to the vast majority. Hence to listen to the people should be the needed tradition. It is up to the people to decide. It is also that they should decide whether the powers vested are to remain, increased or decreased. This has be the people’s decision and for it a referendum is needed to decide. This is the best solution the Secretary Gotabhaya revealed

He emphasised that the numerous parties and institutions should decide and bring it to have a referendum
