The CID has questioned the ‘Divaina’ journalist who had written an article for the newspaper’s June 13 issue regarding the arrest of a drug dealer.Commercial crimes OIC Anura de Silva had gone to the newspaper office yesterday (June 21) and said that he was investigating a complaint made by UPFA Colombo district MP Duminda de Silva.
The policeman has questioned the ‘Divaina’ deputy editor, and thoroughly interrogated journalist Hemantha Randunu, who wrote the article in question.
The article alleges that a young MP of the government had pressurized police against the arrest of ‘Kudu Lalithra.’
The commercial crimes OIC has told the journalist that he should have mentioned the MP by name and also should have said how he got the details.
Mr. Randunu has responded that he was not bound to reply such questions, which would be answered only at a court of law, which made the policeman leave the newspaper office.
