The two men who had assaulted chief news editor of the Jaffna based Uthayan newspaper, G. Kuganathan were still at large, police said.Police had deployed several teams into the area to arrest the two men who had arrived on a motorbike to assault the news editor.
Inspector General of Police N.K. Ilangakoon has handed over the report on the attack on the Uthayan News Editor to President Mahinda Rajapaksa last morning.
Police said that the report contains how the attack was carried out and also about the ongoing investigations conducted by the Jaffna police.
The chief news editor of Uthayan Gnanasundaram Kuganathan was assaulted by an unidentified group on July 29 and was admitted to the Jaffna hospital with critical condition. Later the Jaffna Hospital authorities confirmed that Mr. Kuganathan was out of danger. Following the incident the SL Army had also sent several teams into the area to track down the suspects.
