Weliweriya killings: CTU, IEEU write to HRCSL

The Ceylon Teachers' Union (CTU) and the Independent Educational Employees Union (IEEU) yesterday lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) against the killing of two school children by the Army at Weliweriya last week.

Speaking to Ceylon Today, CTU General Secretary Joseph Stalin said that both unions had written and handed in their letters to the Human Rights' Commission yesterday, condemning the deaths and injuries of school children in the attack by the security forces.

"Two children were killed and four more were reportedly injured. Imagine how many more are actually injured and affected by this. There should be an immediate inquiry into the shootings," Stalin said.

The CTU is prepared to help the HRCSL in every possible manner with regard to the enquiries, and will provide assistance towards finding and collating any data needed as well, he pledged.
