Tamils want only dhal not develution - JVP

''The Gampaha District MP said that according to their sources the northern people did not ask for 13 plus or anything like that. Instead, they wanted dhal at affordable prices, he said. ''

The JVP yesterday accused the government of allowing India to intervene in the country’s internal affairs by permitting their MPs to visit every place in the Northern and Eastern Provinces.

JVP Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath told a press conference that the government had not allowed JVP members to visit the welfare centres accommodating internally displaced persons in the North even after making written requests to the Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, he said.

"However the government allowed an Indian delegation, including its opposition leader, to visit the IDP camps in the North," Hearth said, adding that in the process the government had got exposed as the visiting Indian MPs now claimed that around 6,000 people were still in transit camps.

The Gampaha District MP said that according to their sources the northern people did not ask for 13 plus or anything like that. Instead, they wanted dhal at affordable prices, he said.

"The government can’t say IDPs were resettled properly. Hundreds of houses were damaged by a recent storm but the government did not take any action to assist them so far," Herath said.

Colombo District MP Sunil Hadunnetti said that currently India was not only interfering in the political affairs of Sri Lanka but also trying to control its economy.

Handunnetti said that the Indian government now wanted to control the oil business in Sri Lanka by having oil distribution facilities for the Indian Oil Company.

"Recently, an Indian delegation visited the Sapugaskanda Refinery," Hadunnetti said, adding that IOC was in a process of obtaining an oil supplying facility for Sri Lanka once the Iran credit line came to an end in view of the crippling US embargoes placed on that country.
