Army intrudes upon Matara Municipal administration: officers who rejected Army directives transferred

There had emerged another grave report from Matara today (20) about the Rajapakse regime’s militarization of the South in addition to the North. Early morning today (5.15 a m.), a group of Army officers who descended on the Matara municipal council had made the health protection workers to line up . They have also summoned the Heath Inspectors and after allocating a soldier for each of the Council tractors for supervision and made a list. A Major, Prasad Perera had been in charge of this operation.

AS these actions are in blatant transgression of the laws , the Municipal Commissioner had fiercely objected and refused to obey the Army orders. It is reported that following this episode , steps have been taken by now to transfer Municipal commissioner and the Council Engineer with immediate effect..
It is learnt that these were decisions taken by Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakse.. According to news reaching Lanka e news , the Matara Municipal council workers have been subjected to immense hardships, and the Municipal Council members who heard of this outrageous action have all arrived at the Council.
