Lands for MPs to split us - TNA

By Rathindra Kuruwita

The government has allocated close to 1000 acres of land to several young United Peoples' Freedom Alliance (UPFA) MPs to carry out various programmes, said Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP A Vinayagamoorthy.

This has been done in a bid to artificially create an alternative leadership to the TNA among the Tamils, he asserts.

“UNP crossover Sri Ranga and several other MPs have been given these lands to carry out projects to win over the people.

This is a democratic country and everyone has the right to do politics, but that should not be done misusing state power and resources. This is done in a context where there are thousands who do not have a place to live,” he said. He added that another beneficiary of the government’s move to introduce new faces to the Northern political arena is Kumaran Pathmanathan a.k.a KP. KP’s recent bounty is in addition to other MPs being given government resources and security to further their cause, Vinayagamoorthy said.

“KP has been given 100 acres to carry out his work although I have no idea what that means. They are allowed to go to places where we are not. This is all done to break our vote base but if the government really wants to win the hearts and minds of the Tamils, they should start by resettling the displaced persons immediately.”
